Paul William Bryant , commonly known as “Bear Bryant” was born on 11th September 1913, in Arkansas. Paul William was son of William Monroe and Dora Ida, he had 11 other brothers and sisters.
Interesting fact about this man was that he was amazingly huge at age of 13. He weighted 180 pounds and reached astonishing 6’1″ in height. The way he earned his nickname he later became famous by was that he agreed to wrestle a bear. Yap, this dude was so big and strong that he literally wrestled a bear.
Paul was a college football coach by profession. And he was good at what he did. He had more than successful careers coaching at Kentucky, Maryland, and Texas A & M. He ended up coaching the football team at the University of Alabama, where he reached his career peak. He stayed at Alabama for whole 25 years, up until his death. During his coaching at Alabama coach Bear Bryant and Alabama football team won total of six national championships.
